How To Create A WordPress Blog On Bluehost Hosting [2018]

How To Create A WordPress Blog On Bluehost Hosting [2018]

Having started my blogging journey on Blogger and later shifted to WordPress (after the site geekestate.blogspot.com was deleted from blog spot), I clearly know what advantages and disadvantages both the platforms have. And for any newbie blogger, I would recommend going with WordPress without any second thoughts. My first hosting provider was Bluehost, and I still suggest people take it as the first choice.
Why Bluehost? Not just because it’s one of the leading shared hosting providers but also because it’s cheap, secure, reliable and offers a wide range of options to the customers.
Bluehost offers you unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, good support and everything you need to start off your blogging journey. The shared hosting service will allow you to handle low-medium traffic which is good enough in the beginning. The technology is pretty good and the dashboard is simple and easy to understand. Just go for it!

Guide To Create WordPress Blog On Bluehost

In this article, you’ll learn how to install WordPress on Bluehost and create a self-hosted blog. Before going ahead, make sure you already have a domain name and a Bluehost account. If you don’t have them, you can create a Bluehost account here.
Login to your Bluehost account, you will land on your Cpanel (Control Panel). Click on “Hosting” tab.
On the next page, scroll down to “website” section and click on “Install WordPress“.
Then, click on “Install Now“.
You now want to select the domain name on which you want the WordPress to be installed. You can also decide whether you want the site with “www” or without. These days, I prefer not to include “www”. Then click on the next button.
Click on “Show advanced options“. Here you can enter your site name, WordPress username, and password. Then click on create a new database, agree to the terms and conditions and finally, click on Install Now.
Once all the above steps are done, within few minutes you will be notified that the installation is complete. You will also receive an email which includes your login credentials too.
So, that’s the entire process of installing WordPress on Bluehost. It’s very simple and straightforward. Congratulations you now have your own WordPress blog!
What next? I have written an article on what are all the things you need to do after the blog setup is done, how to install plugins and themes, etc. I’ll leave the links here.

12 Essential WordPress Plugins Used On GeekEstate & Other Highly Recommended

12 Essential WordPress Plugins Used On GeekEstate & Other Highly Recommended.

There are so many plugins in WordPress that people often get confused to choose one for a particular use. After so many years of blogging, I still keep shifting from one plugin to another depending on the requirement, functionality, and efficiency. It’s not as easy as it sounds, and I get a lot of questions from newbie bloggers asking me to suggest them the best plugin for particular functionality. So I decided to write an article on the various plugins I use and plugins which I don’t use on geekestate but use them on other blogs.
Before finalizing the plugin I use, I do a lot of research on various plugins which can perform the same functionality. There might be few exceptions but here are the things I look into:
  • Google for the functionality or requirement and check if there are any plugins available.
  • Check all the plugins, the number of installations, their reviews, and ratings.
  • Check if the plugin is compatible with the current version of WordPress.
  • Check the screenshots (if provided), just to understand how simple or complicated the plugin is.
  • Check if there are any bugs reported recently on the plugin support page.
  • Finally, install the plugin and check if it satisfies your requirement or not.
If you are a newbie blogger, go through this article on how to install plugin and theme on WordPress. And I recommend you to follow the drill for every plugin.

    #1. Akismet Anti-Spam

Akismet is now a default plugin for every WordPress installation. It’s a free anti-spam tool which blocks all the spam comments on your website. WordPress sites generally get a lot of spam comments from bots, so it’s highly recommended to use the plugin.
The plugin has a basic and a plus version which is paid. Usually, the basic version is good enough and you don’t have to waste a few bucks on the paid version.
In the plugin settings, it asks you for an API key, which can be obtained by signing up to the basic version.

#2. All In One WP Security

As the name suggests, this is a security plugin with a wide range of security options available to the user. Security is a major concern to any WordPress site, and keeping your website safe can often be tricky and might include technical stuff. But this plugin allows, even a newbie blogger, to clearly understand what the settings are, how they will help you, what is recommended and what not, which is one of the best things about it.
One downside I found is that the captcha, sometimes, doesn’t work properly. It might be because of the cache or a bug in the plugin. So you either have to clear the cache or re-install the plugin in such situations.
The plugin settings might confuse you. So I’ll write a clear article on this plugin too.

    #3. Autoptimize

This is another free plugin which you can install directly from the dashboard search. It is used to optimize the scripts in the site and improve the speed and performance. You can optimize the HTML, Javascript, CSS etc., which can clearly show you the difference on Google Pagespeed test. I tried and tested various plugins for this, but Autoptimize is better than the rest.

    #4. Accelerated Mobile Pages

AMP has been a very important technical update on Google search and there are hardly any plugins on WordPress on this. Apart from the default plugin, this one makes your life easy in many ways. You can design the AMP version of your site, play around with the settings, place ads, analytics etc., which will need a bit of technical knowledge if they have to be done manually.
One downside for the users is that the main plugin doesn’t allow you all the functionalities you need, and there are paid extensions which you need to install.

    #5. Facebook Comments Plugin

This is a free plugin which allows you to implement Facebook comments on your blog. This plugin is really good for bloggers who get traffic from Facebook, especially from Instant Articles. The installation is pretty straightforward, and it also allows you to sync the comments with your page.

    #6. Instant Articles For WP

As you know, this plugin is used to implement Instant Articles on your WordPress blog. I have been using it on ATB since the time Facebook introduced it instant articles. A very useful and basic plugin which allows you to link your website with the configuration for instant articles on your page. It makes the approval, ad placements and adding supported external javascript easy.

    #7. Redirection

Having 301 or 404 errors affects the blog’s SEO and thereby the rankings. This plugin allows you to manage 301 redirections and monitor 404 errors.

    #8. Smart 404

Smart 404 is a free plugin which rescues the visitors from 404 errors. Many users might end up landing on a wrong page or you might change a URL to a similar new one, so this plugin will automatically use the current URL to attempt to find matching content and redirect to it.

    #9. Table of Content Plus

This plugin will automatically create a table of content from the heading tags on every post or page you want. It’s useful both for the visitors and also the bloggers in terms of SEO.

    #10. Ultimate Nofollow

A simple plugin which allows you to add a rel=nofollow tag to particular links. You don’t have to mention it manually in the text format every time.

    #11. Ad Injection

This is a free WordPress plugin which allows you to insert ads in various places depending on the requirement. I generally prefer this plugin because of the flexibility and range of options it offers to the users. It’s one of the default plugins I use on almost every website.

    #12. Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO is one of the most important plugins which I use on every blog. It’s an all in one solution for all the on-page SEO a blog needs. It also has a premium version with additional options.
The settings can get a little tricky, so I wrote a complete article on it a while ago. You can go through: How to Install and Setup WordPress SEO by Yoast Plugin in 2017 – Settings

Other Plugins which I recommend to use:

    •  LazyLoad– To enable the lazy load of images, videos etc. Helps in improving site speed.
    • WordPress Related Thumbnails: – To show related posts by category, tag, etc., under the post.
    • Broken Link Checker: – To check and solve the broken link issue.
    • WP Hide Post:– To hide your posts from the homepage, category page, archive page, etc.
    • Q2W3 Find Checker:– To fix your widget on the scroll.
    • Import External Images:– Useful while migrating your website.
    • Auto Post Thumbnail:– Automatically generates a thumbnail from the post’s images. Also useful while migration the site.
I keep replacing or adding new plugins from time to time. I will update this article every month, so keep an eye on this space.
On a personal note, I usually prefer to avoid plugins where ever I can, especially for a simple functionality or a one-time work. Adding more unnecessary plugins will just increase the server and script requests and also, there are many plugins which are not updated from time to time, which leads to site’s vulnerability and more risk of getting hacked. So, I recommend my fellow bloggers to consider this as well.
Let me know your views about this and comment below if I missed any good plugin or there is a better alternative.

Long Tail Keywords- Find & Use The Right LTK’s For Your Website Using These 5 Amazing Tools!!

Long Tail Keywords- Find & Use The Right LTK’s For Your Website Using These 5 Amazing Tools!!

We all know how important keywords are and what a crucial role they play in our websites ranking. When we think of SEO and keywords, we always are more worried about the most “generic” keywords. So, what do I mean by generic keywords? For example, you have a website that lists all hotels rooms or guest houses or community sharing spaces specifically for solo travelers. So a more generic keyword for your website could be “rooms”, “hotel rooms”, “hotels”, “sharing rooms”, “guest houses”, etc. You can also name these as short-tail keywords. Of course, these are highly searched keywords. But, these are also the most common and most competitive keywords.

    long-tail-keyword
Now, go to google and type “rooms”, “hotel rooms” etc and you will find some of the top-ranked sites such as OYO rooms, MakeMyTrip, Yatra, GoIbibo, etc. So all these rank on top in google for these generic/ Short-tail keywords. So in order for you to rank on top there, you need to shed a lot of money and it’s going to be a very tedious and time-taking process. This is where Long tail keywords come to your rescue. Keywords that are more specific and cater to the needs of those smaller sections of the users who type the long and more elaborative search terms are called the Long-term keywords. These set of users know exactly what they want and there is a very high probability that the conversions you get from them are damn good.
    longtailkeyword

Yes, only 20-30% of users search with a Longtail keyword. But, you cannot neglect them as they are worth every piece of effort you put on them. Concentrating only on high-competitive Short-tail keywords when you also have valuable LTK’s at your disposal will only prove your foolishness. Why are they valuable??? Here are a few reasons you ought to consider –
    • Lesser competition.
    • Easier to rank them on the top of google search.
    • Higher probability of sale conversions for your products.
So are you convinced about how LTK’s can add value to your blog and help your blog transform from a mediocre to a consummate one? If yes, then let us look at some of the tools that help us find and use the right LTK’s for our websites.

      1.SEMrush –

SEMrush is one of the best in the market when it comes to Keyword searching. The number of features it offers and the in-depth stats that it provides makes SEMrush stand out among other tools. So, we have registered for the 14-day free trial and gave our keyword “solo travelers”. The result is shown below-
      SEMrush
Now this table gives us a detailed picture of the related keywords, their volume of search, CPC etc. In addition to these, it also offers infographic data for a better visual understanding as shown below-
      SEMrush
Phrase match, related keywords, keyword difficulty, ads history etc are some of the many more valuable features that SEMrush offers and one must surely try out this tool!!! The price of the paid version ranges from $99 – $399/month. We have upgraded to a pro version as we just love this tool.

      2.Long Tail Pro –

Long Tail Pro is another very productive tool and its price ranges from $25-$98/month which is quite less compared with SEMrush. But, the good thing about this is it offers quite a few handy options that are very helpful. We have subscribed for the 7-day free trial and started using this tool.
First up, you need to create a project and give a seed keyword. The tool throws up a list of Long-tail keywords that can be built around your seed keyword as shown in the figure below.
      Long-tail
The paid version gives you access to Long Tail Bootcamp(worth $127) and a keyword Competitiveness(KC) feature which will help you identify how difficult it is to rank your keyword in the google search. It also offers features that help you determine your keyword profitability. All in all, this tool is worth every penny you spend on it.

      3. KWFinder –

KWFinder is a relatively new tool but a very effective one for sure. The UI of this tool is sure to grab the attention of the present gen Bloggers. It is also a paid tool and its pricing ranges from $26-$71/month. It has a rather attractive dashboard and without wasting any time we registered and entered our keyword. This is how the results look-
      KWFinder
So like the other tools we discussed, KWFinder leaves no stone behind as it gives info such as SEO difficulty rank, monthly searches, a list of websites that rank for this keyword including that site’s DA(domain authority), visitors etc and much more. The SERPChecker feature is a very handy one as well.
      SERPchecker
This tool is worth a try especially for the price that it is being offered.

      4.Uber Suggest –

Uber suggest is a free and a simple tool to identify your Long Tail keywords. Enter your keyword and it presents the Long Tail Keywords. You can download and save your search results as a CSV file or you can copy paste them into a spreadsheet. Follow this video tutorial to get started.
So the features that we have to look out for are- The WordCloud(a unique visual representation of keywords to grasp your eye) and the google trends graph.

      5. Keyword Tool –

Keyword Tool is another simple and easy to use Long Tail Research tool aimed at beginners. It throws results for multiple search platforms such as Google, Bing, Youtube, etc. So, we entered our keyword and as shown below it restricts to display additional results. It insists on purchasing the pro versions whose prices range from $48-$88/month.
      Keyword-tool

The pro plan promises the below features-
      • Search Volume Data
      • Cost-Per-Click Data
      • AdWords Competition Data
      • 2 Times More Keywords
      • Competitor Keyword Analysis
      • Bulk Search Volume Analysis
These are the some of the tools that we tried and tested for Long Tail Keyword research. Hope you find this article of some use. Please feel free to pitch in any more tools that you have used for Long Tails in the comments section below.
