SEO TOOLS AND ITS USES

Get Your Strat in SEO With these SEO Tools:

1)Are you new to the wonderful world of SEO?
Everyone has to start somewhere.  So, you might as well hit the ground running, as soon as possible. As you gain steam and begin to understand the finer details of search engine optimization, you’ll soon realize just how important the right strategy is to your business.
In my step-by-step guide to SEO, I discuss the importance of this strategy, as well as basic information to help you better understand what you should and shouldn’t be doing.
2)What’s the best way to get started with SEO, without spending thousands of dollars?
It’s easy to believe that you have to pay an SEO professional thousands of dollars to achieve top-notch search results where your business ranking is concerned. At the same time, you may find yourself paying for every resource imaginable.
While there’s nothing wrong with spending money to make money, this isn’t something you have to do. Instead, there are plenty of free resources that can point you in the right direction.
In this post, I’ll share 10 free SEO tools that are perfect for beginners who want to get their feet wet. These tools won’t guarantee page one search results, but they’ll go a long way in helping you formulate a strategy for reaching your goal.

Google Search Console

If you’re going to familiarize yourself with only one free SEO tool, let it be this one. It may not be the most advanced. And, it may not have a direct impact on your rankings. But, it’s extremely powerful for beginners.
This free SEO tool is all about one thing: the overall health of your website.
For example, you can use it to see how many URLs have been submitted and how many have been indexed.
image02
Another one of my favorite features is the “Search Analytics” function. With the ability to review “your performance on Google Search,” you can get a better idea of whether or not your website is trending in the right direction.
Here’s an example of some of the data that you can track:
image11
You don’t want to obsess over these numbers, but they give you a good idea of where your site stands and how it’s progressing. For example, you want your total clicks, total impressions, and CTR to increase over time, with your average position getting lower.
Even if you don’t know the first thing about using the Google Search Console, it only takes a few minutes to poke around and learn how it works.

2. SEMrush

Are you looking to learn more about your website? How about a competitor’s site?
SEMrush has you covered. All you have to do is enter a URL and run a search. From there, you’ll be provided with a variety of data, all of which can be used to help push your SEO efforts to the next level.
The only bad thing about SEMrush, if you can call it that, is the amount of information you’re presented with. If you’re experienced in the field of online marketing, you’ll love the avalanche of data. But, if you’re new to this space, it can be intimidating.
My suggestion is to take things one step at a time, only moving on to the next section of data when you fully understand what you’ve already reviewed.
Many people start by reviewing the backlinks data. This is particularly true when you want to see how a competitor is performing:
image01
From there, it’s only natural to focus on the top organic keywords. This shows you the top keywords for the site, which will provide you with some guidance, moving forward.
image13
If you want to learn more about any website, with an eye towards SEO, you’ll need to spend plenty of time with SEMrush. There aren’t many free SEO tools that offer as much as this one.

3. Keys4Up

There’s something about keyword research that scares many people.
If you’re new to SEO or if you don’t know which keywords align with your industry and goals, you need to use Keys4Up.
The goal of this free tool is simple: to bring simplicity to the process of keyword research.
Once you run a few searches, you’ll find Keys4Up easy to use and full of powerful features.
Once you select your primary keyword and hit search, you can sit back and let this free tool do all the work for you.
Inputting “content marketing” into a search engine turns up the following search results:
image05
As you can see, you can review all keywords or focus on those that are 1, 2, or 3 words long. I suggest that you experiment with each option, as this will allow you to review every keyword.
What I like best about Keys4Up is the “what you see is what you get” functionality. You aren’t bogged down with details that don’t matter. Instead, all you do is run your search and review the keywords.
image16
Pro tip: you can export saved keywords to your computer or spreadsheet. Either way, this is a good idea, if you want to review your search engine results at a later date.

4. SEOquake

Is Firefox, Chrome or Opera your browser of choice?
If so, you owe it to yourself to learn more about the SEOquake browser extension. It doesn’t matter which of these three browsers you use, the same features are available.
While this free too self-explanatory story, once installed, there are some key features that you should become familiar with:
  • Instantly conduct an on-page SEO audit of any webpage, including competitors.
  • Analyze the external and internal links of any webpage.
  • Compare URLs and domains, in real time.
  • Export data for future use.
Here’s an example of the SEO audit of a webpage, as shared by SEOquake:
image14
You’ll find this useful, when browsing your own website, as it gives you an idea of what you’re doing right and what might need a change.
It’s also useful as you check out your competitors. By seeing where they come up short, you may be able to take full advantage, subsequently pushing your website to the top of the search engine results.
All in all, SEOquake is easy to use, without being intrusive. Once you download the extension and learn how it can suit your personal needs, there’s a good chance that it’ll become one of your go-to free SEO tools.

5. Keyword In

Are you looking for something a bit more creative than a basic keyword planner?
Keyword In may be able to help. With this, you can throw out a variety of keywords, with the hope of uncovering fresh ideas.
Here’s a basic idea of how to get started:
image10
You can use any keywords that come to mind. It’s free and fast to use, so get creative.
Once you hit the “Generate” button, the search results will knock you off your feet:
image06
Sure, you could have thought up these keywords on your own, but it would have taken quite some time.
With Keyword In, you can quickly find the best long relevant keywords website.
This isn’t the type of free tool that you’ll use each day, but it definitely comes in handy, every now and again. For example, if you’re researching ideas for a new blog post, you can use it to come up with a list of long-tail keywords to include.
Keyword In can be classified as a keyword research tool, but it’s definitely more than that. One search and you’ll realize this to be true.

6. Gogretel

The name of this free SEO tool doesn’t give anything away, in terms of what it offers, but it’s well worth using.
With Gogretel, you can get an instant look at whether or not your website follows Google webmaster guidelines. Along with this, there’s a social media component that’s also worth checking out.
Upon running a test, you’re presented with a search results page that allows you to view information in three distinct categories:
image00
You can click on each category to access detailed data. For example, the basic information tab provides the following:
Like a few other free SEO tools on this list, Gogretel isn’t one that you’ll use daily. Sure, you’ll want to check your site from time to time, but you don’t have to do so every day of the week.
That said, it doesn’t hurt to use Gogretel as a way of better understanding and tracking your competitors. For example, you can use the content analysis tab to see where your top competitors are lacking, then use these shortcomings against them.
image07
The speed and data alone are reason enough to run a couple searches with Gogretel. If nothing else, one search will show you if the free tool has something to offer your business in the future.

7. Google Moblie Friendly Test

There was a time when it didn’t matter if your website was mobile-friendly.
However, those days have come and gone. Not only does this have an impact on your search engine rankings, but it also has a lot to do with the user experience.
Are you unsure if your website is mobile-friendly?
Well, you don’t have to wonder any longer. Instead, you can use this free Google tool to get a fast answer.
There’s nothing else you need to know about this tool. Once you check your website, you’ll know, for sure, if it’s mobile-friendly or not. If it is, you’re in good shape. If it’s not, don’t wait another day to make a change. This could do wonders for your traffic.

How To Create A WordPress Blog On Bluehost Hosting [2018]

How To Create A WordPress Blog On Bluehost Hosting [2018]

Having started my blogging journey on Blogger and later shifted to WordPress (after the site geekestate.blogspot.com was deleted from blog spot), I clearly know what advantages and disadvantages both the platforms have. And for any newbie blogger, I would recommend going with WordPress without any second thoughts. My first hosting provider was Bluehost, and I still suggest people take it as the first choice.
Why Bluehost? Not just because it’s one of the leading shared hosting providers but also because it’s cheap, secure, reliable and offers a wide range of options to the customers.
Bluehost offers you unlimited bandwidth, unlimited storage, good support and everything you need to start off your blogging journey. The shared hosting service will allow you to handle low-medium traffic which is good enough in the beginning. The technology is pretty good and the dashboard is simple and easy to understand. Just go for it!

Guide To Create WordPress Blog On Bluehost

In this article, you’ll learn how to install WordPress on Bluehost and create a self-hosted blog. Before going ahead, make sure you already have a domain name and a Bluehost account. If you don’t have them, you can create a Bluehost account here.
Login to your Bluehost account, you will land on your Cpanel (Control Panel). Click on “Hosting” tab.
On the next page, scroll down to “website” section and click on “Install WordPress“.
Then, click on “Install Now“.
You now want to select the domain name on which you want the WordPress to be installed. You can also decide whether you want the site with “www” or without. These days, I prefer not to include “www”. Then click on the next button.
Click on “Show advanced options“. Here you can enter your site name, WordPress username, and password. Then click on create a new database, agree to the terms and conditions and finally, click on Install Now.
Once all the above steps are done, within few minutes you will be notified that the installation is complete. You will also receive an email which includes your login credentials too.
So, that’s the entire process of installing WordPress on Bluehost. It’s very simple and straightforward. Congratulations you now have your own WordPress blog!
What next? I have written an article on what are all the things you need to do after the blog setup is done, how to install plugins and themes, etc. I’ll leave the links here.
If you have any doubts or would like to add anything to the article, you can use the comments section below!

12 Essential WordPress Plugins Used On GeekEstate & Other Highly Recommended

12 Essential WordPress Plugins Used On GeekEstate & Other Highly Recommended.

There are so many plugins in WordPress that people often get confused to choose one for a particular use. After so many years of blogging, I still keep shifting from one plugin to another depending on the requirement, functionality, and efficiency. It’s not as easy as it sounds, and I get a lot of questions from newbie bloggers asking me to suggest them the best plugin for particular functionality. So I decided to write an article on the various plugins I use and plugins which I don’t use on geekestate but use them on other blogs.
Before finalizing the plugin I use, I do a lot of research on various plugins which can perform the same functionality. There might be few exceptions but here are the things I look into:
  • Google for the functionality or requirement and check if there are any plugins available.
  • Check all the plugins, the number of installations, their reviews, and ratings.
  • Check if the plugin is compatible with the current version of WordPress.
  • Check the screenshots (if provided), just to understand how simple or complicated the plugin is.
  • Check if there are any bugs reported recently on the plugin support page.
  • Finally, install the plugin and check if it satisfies your requirement or not.
If you are a newbie blogger, go through this article on how to install plugin and theme on WordPress. And I recommend you to follow the drill for every plugin.

    #1. Akismet Anti-Spam

Akismet is now a default plugin for every WordPress installation. It’s a free anti-spam tool which blocks all the spam comments on your website. WordPress sites generally get a lot of spam comments from bots, so it’s highly recommended to use the plugin.
The plugin has a basic and a plus version which is paid. Usually, the basic version is good enough and you don’t have to waste a few bucks on the paid version.
In the plugin settings, it asks you for an API key, which can be obtained by signing up to the basic version.

#2. All In One WP Security

As the name suggests, this is a security plugin with a wide range of security options available to the user. Security is a major concern to any WordPress site, and keeping your website safe can often be tricky and might include technical stuff. But this plugin allows, even a newbie blogger, to clearly understand what the settings are, how they will help you, what is recommended and what not, which is one of the best things about it.
One downside I found is that the captcha, sometimes, doesn’t work properly. It might be because of the cache or a bug in the plugin. So you either have to clear the cache or re-install the plugin in such situations.
The plugin settings might confuse you. So I’ll write a clear article on this plugin too.

    #3. Autoptimize

This is another free plugin which you can install directly from the dashboard search. It is used to optimize the scripts in the site and improve the speed and performance. You can optimize the HTML, Javascript, CSS etc., which can clearly show you the difference on Google Pagespeed test. I tried and tested various plugins for this, but Autoptimize is better than the rest.

    #4. Accelerated Mobile Pages

AMP has been a very important technical update on Google search and there are hardly any plugins on WordPress on this. Apart from the default plugin, this one makes your life easy in many ways. You can design the AMP version of your site, play around with the settings, place ads, analytics etc., which will need a bit of technical knowledge if they have to be done manually.
One downside for the users is that the main plugin doesn’t allow you all the functionalities you need, and there are paid extensions which you need to install.

    #5. Facebook Comments Plugin

This is a free plugin which allows you to implement Facebook comments on your blog. This plugin is really good for bloggers who get traffic from Facebook, especially from Instant Articles. The installation is pretty straightforward, and it also allows you to sync the comments with your page.

    #6. Instant Articles For WP

As you know, this plugin is used to implement Instant Articles on your WordPress blog. I have been using it on ATB since the time Facebook introduced it instant articles. A very useful and basic plugin which allows you to link your website with the configuration for instant articles on your page. It makes the approval, ad placements and adding supported external javascript easy.

    #7. Redirection

Having 301 or 404 errors affects the blog’s SEO and thereby the rankings. This plugin allows you to manage 301 redirections and monitor 404 errors.

    #8. Smart 404

Smart 404 is a free plugin which rescues the visitors from 404 errors. Many users might end up landing on a wrong page or you might change a URL to a similar new one, so this plugin will automatically use the current URL to attempt to find matching content and redirect to it.

    #9. Table of Content Plus

This plugin will automatically create a table of content from the heading tags on every post or page you want. It’s useful both for the visitors and also the bloggers in terms of SEO.

    #10. Ultimate Nofollow

A simple plugin which allows you to add a rel=nofollow tag to particular links. You don’t have to mention it manually in the text format every time.

    #11. Ad Injection

This is a free WordPress plugin which allows you to insert ads in various places depending on the requirement. I generally prefer this plugin because of the flexibility and range of options it offers to the users. It’s one of the default plugins I use on almost every website.

    #12. Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO is one of the most important plugins which I use on every blog. It’s an all in one solution for all the on-page SEO a blog needs. It also has a premium version with additional options.
The settings can get a little tricky, so I wrote a complete article on it a while ago. You can go through: How to Install and Setup WordPress SEO by Yoast Plugin in 2017 – Settings

Other Plugins which I recommend to use:

    •  LazyLoad– To enable the lazy load of images, videos etc. Helps in improving site speed.
    • WordPress Related Thumbnails: – To show related posts by category, tag, etc., under the post.
    • Broken Link Checker: – To check and solve the broken link issue.
    • WP Hide Post:– To hide your posts from the homepage, category page, archive page, etc.
    • Q2W3 Find Checker:– To fix your widget on the scroll.
    • Import External Images:– Useful while migrating your website.
    • Auto Post Thumbnail:– Automatically generates a thumbnail from the post’s images. Also useful while migration the site.
I keep replacing or adding new plugins from time to time. I will update this article every month, so keep an eye on this space.
On a personal note, I usually prefer to avoid plugins where ever I can, especially for a simple functionality or a one-time work. Adding more unnecessary plugins will just increase the server and script requests and also, there are many plugins which are not updated from time to time, which leads to site’s vulnerability and more risk of getting hacked. So, I recommend my fellow bloggers to consider this as well.
Let me know your views about this and comment below if I missed any good plugin or there is a better alternative.
